Me after cancer treatment rocking a post-chemo hairstyle and ubiquitous kmart surgical bra 😁
2024 was a bit of a year for me, due to a little adventure with breast cancer. The battle has been won (fingers crossed) and of course like all slightly-obsessive makers, I used it for inspiration.
Since I was making cards anyway, I thought I'd make one that I would have found useful during the hard bits of the cancer treatment: sometimes when I didn't feel up to much I played 'the cancer card' - used it as an excuse to get out of something I didn't want to do. So I thought it would be fun to have an actual cancer card - a card to remind the owner that it's ok to take a break when you need one, in a light-hearted way.
I plan to use these as gifts for friends going through the rough bits of cancer treatment, so they know that I'm happy to help when they need it, and that I won't judge them if they need to let me down sometimes.
Play the cancer card when you need to take a break.
These cards are available for purchase at The Women's Bookshop, the Felt website, or through me directly at rebsleafylens@gmail.com (or you can message me on fb/insta).
Pricing:
$4.50 per card (incl envelope) or $3.50 per card if you are purchasing 5 or more.
Freight:
$2.50 for 1 to 4 cards (sent in envelope)
$6.60 for 5 to 50 cards (courier) (+$3.50 if RD)
As a way of giving back, when I sell these ones I give 50c per card to the Breast Cancer Foundation , the The Cancer Society or to the Breast Cancer Aotearoa Coalition (you can let me know your preferred organisation when you purchase some, or else I'll distribute the donations equally. These organisations really made a difference during my treatment - WELL worth our support.
If you're interested in what it's like to go through cancer treatment, or if you're one of the unlucky ones and have upcoming treatment yourself, feel free to check out my cancer treatment blog at https://unfilteredbreastcancer.blog/ .
It is different for everyone, so don't treat this like a guidebook! Please enjoy 🩷
